We advised you about changes to Urgent Care Services in Greenwich in April 2016. Further changes have now been made by Greenwich Clinical Commissioning Group.
From 1 October 2016, the Walk-in service at Thamesmead Health Centre will no longer be available. Our registered GP services will be unaffected, so there is no change for registered patients at Thamesmead Health Centre.
Aims of the Clinical Commissioning Group
Following a NHS England review, Greenwich CCG was required to evaluate local provisions in line with the new standards for A&E, Urgent Care Centre & Walk-in Centres. Greenwich CCG has subsequently taken the decision to terminate the Walk-in Centres located at Thamesmead Health Centre and Clover Health Centre.
Greenwich CCG is creating two GP Access Hubs in line with the new NHS England standards to extend access to GP services over the weekend. These GP Access Hubs will be based at Thamesmead Health Centre and Eltham Community Hospital, and will be run by Greenwich Health Ltd. We hope to keep waiting times to a minimum through the appointment system. Patients registered with local GPs will be able to book advance appointments for Saturday and Sunday through their own GP surgery.
We are planning to extend the hours offered by GP Access Hubs further when we receive confirmation of national funding.
Changes to existing services
The Walk-in Services at Thamesmead Health Centre and Clover Health Centre will no longer be available at the end of September, but there will be no changes to the registered GP services delivered from each of these sites, and they will continue to provide general medical services to their registered patients.
When will this happen?
The changes will commence from 30th September 2016.
What does this mean for me?
From 1st October 2016, patients registered with Greenwich GPs will be able to see a GP on Saturdays and Sundays through the two GP Access Hubs based at Thamesmead Health Centre and Eltham Community Hospital.
The two GP Access Hubs will be open on Saturdays from 9am to 5pm and on Sundays from 9am to 1pm by appointment ONLY. To access these GP Access Hubs, you can call NHS 111 or your GP surgery can book an appointment for you directly.
